To me the realtek devices give off a slight grainy picture. Again if I just owned a realtek player and was not switching between devices I probably would have never noticed it and been perfectly fine. Thanks a lot for sharing your test results. Pretty much confirms what I expected to hear - there seem to be some differences, though marginal. I am in the exact same boat as you with a live hub. I was going to get a dune but apparently firmware support has turned awful.
What solution did you decide on? I suppose a WDTV live smp is a fairly inexpensive stopgap if something better comes along. I have heard suggestions of xbmc, but have no idea how it operates. Hi, I was a bit busy these days and still haven't bought a new player. In the meanwhile I have posted on the WD forum and a representative of the company confirmed that the support for the hub has ended - it's a pity, as so far most of the firmware updates for the Hub and the SMP were done simultaneously, only this last one, bringing the DTS-HD MA audio to the SMP was not applied to the Hub.
Yes, I believe the SMP would be the ideal stopgap - cheap, known interface, mostly stable. Sigma chip, considered by some to be an advantage and as the chip is newer than that on the Hub - hopefully a bit faster. In my case, the Hub will stay as a network storage only, so I had to figure out how to aggregate the Media Library to include the network shares in case I buy the SMP.
It seems my problem is that I would like some change, so that's why currently the Mede8er is on top of my list also having 3D capabilty at hand if one day I change my TV. On the other hand, I have read some users complaining about issues between this player and their AVRs problems reported about Onkyo and Marantz due to the player actually doing pass-through and not bitsreaming I'm not so knowledgeable to tell the difference , thus producing some pop etc. I have a Denon, so that problem may not affect me, but who knows.
I think I will stay away from xbmc options - too new, still no HD audio, as far as I know. Also, those firmware problems with the Dunes and the Popcorns are forcing me to stay away from them as well, mainly because it would be frustrating for my wife and kids. What dazm41 says seems reasonable - thank you. I also tend to think now may not be the best moment to look for a player, maybe better wait, but you know - if it bites you ones I finally bought the Mede8er , it will be with me tomorrow.
I'll see how it compares to the Hub, especially for audio. CP00 said:. The processor automiatically decoded a dts stream. In this situation,.
A couple of questions please based on your article. I cannot perceive any difference in quality between optical audio which is dvd quality and HDMI audio lpcm. Or what am I supposed to perceive.
So, can you give me some advice: 1 Please suggest to me some typical preferably low-priced players for these types of Blu-Ray audio discs and 2 Do these new Blu-Ray players come with 4 analog RCA output jacks into which I can plug 4 RCA-type cables that will feed one of my 4-channel receivers? However, that dts-hd Master Audio disc should have fallback audio that the player could read.
