Install pex

Step 2: Slide the PEX crimp ring and over the tubing approximately 2" past the end. Step 6: Position the PEX crimp tool over the crimp ring evenly, at degrees to the tubing. Make sure that jaws of the tool are centered over the crimp ring and it stays in place. Step 8: Check the connection with a go-no-go gauge. The image below shows a connection which gauges properly.

In both examples below, connection was done improperly and must be redone after removing the crimp ring and re-calibrating the tool. Although I find that this mostly opens the crimp ring just enough to allow it to slide off the PEX.

The one downside is the fact that SharkBites expensive as all heck. Little side note, you can leave the plastic insert in the SharkBite fitting even if you use it with copper. I called SharkBite and asked them about this. SharkBites will spin degrees around PEX or copper pipes. This is completely normal. This was meant to be a high level overview and teach you the basics of PEX. I truly think you'd love working with it more than copper in some instances.

At the exact same time my parents replaced theirs with cpvc and I swear two months later you could still taste the cpvc cement in the water.

Mine was quick and easy. I have had to change a few things due to remodels and I have added stuff here and there and it's so nice to only shut the water off for a matter of minutes and turn it right back on. No cure or dry times just instant ready to go. In fact this weekend I am installing another outdoor frost free hose spicket. Good ible. One thing worth mentioning is that shark bite brand fittings are not the only or even common where I live crimp fittings.

The only gripe i do have tho is the manual press tool, they look big and bulky compared to the Mil3 crimp tools, whats your take. Also could you do a review on the viega manual press tool would appreciate it. Hi Jeff, just to be clear, you are demonstrating Pro Pex as apposed to plain old pex — they are a different beast.

Does pex tubing have a freezing point to where water will freeze in it and cause it to burst? I was just wondering. Pex is the real deal. It will withstand close to freezing temps and swell far beyond copper pipes before bursting. They chew through everything including Pex. I worked in an old building that had Pex and mice. I invested in a good wet-vac. You must be logged in to post a comment. Browse template styles.
